Ask A Question
Do I need different auto insurance if I use my personal truck for landscaping work?

Q: Do I need different auto insurance if I use my personal truck for landscaping work?

A: Possibly. The most important thing is that you inform your insurance provider about how you're using the vehicle. Some personal auto policies can cover you if you use the vehicle for commercial purposes, but the insurance provider has to know about it first. Some personal policies won't cover your vehicle for commercial purposes at all.

Keep in mind that if you maintain your personal auto policy and continue to use your vehicle for work, your rates may go up.

Alternatively, you can purchase a Commercial Auto Insurance policy to fill coverage gaps in your personal policy. This insurance policy can offer coverage for work and company vehicles. If your vehicle is in your business's name, you may have to carry a Commercial Auto policy.
